FAA Part 107 class
An FAA Part 107 class is a course designed to prepare individuals for the Federal Aviation Administration’s Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification exam. This certification is required for commercial drone operators in the United States, enabling them to legally operate small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) for business or professional purposes.

Developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), this standard aims to ensure that fire departments, law enforcement, and emergency services can integrate drone technology into their operations while maintaining safety, reliability, and accountability.

Program Management: Defines requirements for creating and managing an sUAS program, including policies, procedures, and compliance with regulations like FAA Part 107.
Personnel Requirements: Outlines training, certifications, and responsibilities for remote pilots, visual observers, and other team members involved in sUAS operations.
sUAS Equipment: Specifies standards for the selection, maintenance, and use of drones, including payloads such as cameras or thermal sensors.
Operational Guidelines: Details protocols for preflight planning, risk assessment, communication, and post-mission debriefing to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Equipment provided by the host: NIST Props x 1 for 10 students or x 2 for 10 or more students.

Instructor – Mr. Wayne Bailey is a highly experienced public safety professional with a career spanning nearly five decades. His public safety journey began in 1975, leading him to a pivotal role with the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) in 1995. Following his retirement from OSFM in 2019, Mr. Bailey joined Blue Ridge Mountain Drones as Chief Pilot, specializing in drone instruction. He has since trained over 2,000 students across 200 FAA Part 107 classes, primarily within public safety and educational sectors. Additionally, Mr. Bailey serves as an FAA Safety Team Member and a designated FAA Drone Pro, consulting with North Carolina’s CTE and Law and Public Safety Education (LAPSEN) as their Drone Coordinator.
