Dispatch Instructor Certification

Note: Teachers have a one year grace period where they can begin teaching dispatch and certifying students before being fully certified as a Dispatch 9-1-1 Instructor.

Dispatch Certification

All instructors must have a dispatch certification to be able to be instructor level certified.

If you have been certified or have extensive training in emergency dispatch, even if it has expired, you can be waived from taking the Basic 9-1-1 course. Click Here to view waiver. You will register for the Instructor Course (see below) and there will be an option to upload a file – you will upload a pdf copy of your waiver approval email. Just being in law enforcement is not enough, you must have emergency dispatch training of some type.

If you do not have emergency dispatch training, you will need to complete a dispatch training course. NECI 9-1-1 offers a 9-1-1 Basic Communications Course online. It is a 40 hour course that results in a professional certification in emergency dispatch. It was designed with LAPSEN for teachers to prepare them for teaching the course materials while maximizing their time and offering online versatility.

9-1-1 Basic Course: $125. Click Here to register. This is offered directly by NECI 9-1-1.

9-1-1 Instructor Certification

Instructor certification is an 10 hour course. It is offered at the LAPSEN National Conference each year. It can be offered by a state or district that has a large number of teachers to train. It is also offered online. Check the LAPSEN dispatch training schedule for dates and locations.

The online option consists of four 2.5 hour online sessions with assignments.

Once completed, instructors will receive:

  • PowerPoints for each unit
  • Instructional resources for each unit
  • Instructor Manual PDF
  • Student Manual PDF

9-1-1 Instructor Course: $500 ($100 discount for LAPSEN Members). Click Here to see upcoming courses and information on how to register.

When registering, you will need a copy of your emergency dispatch certification, state agency transcript showing emergency dispatch training or a description of emergency dispatch training in a PDF. During checkout there will be an upload section – that is where you upload your PDF.

If you are enrolled in the Basic 9-1-1 course, you can go ahead and register for the instructor course. Make a PDF of a course email (registration, instructor welcome, etc.) and upload that as proof of enrollment.

You MUST be finished with your Basic 9-1-1 course BEFORE the instructor course starts.

Note: Teachers have a one year grace period where they can begin teaching dispatch and certifying students before being fully certified as a Dispatch 9-1-1 Instructor.
