FAA Part 107 class
An FAA Part 107 class is a course designed to prepare individuals for the Federal Aviation Administration’s Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification exam. This certification is required for commercial drone operators in the United States, enabling them to legally operate small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) for business or professional purposes.
Monday, February 3rd – Presentation and Case Studies.
Tuesday, February 4th – Application, PSI, IACRA & introduction to flight.

- Regulations: Comprehensive understanding of FAA Part 107 rules, including operational limitations, airspace classifications, and waiver applications.
- Airspace and Weather: Instruction on how to interpret airspace maps, charts, and weather reports, including METARs and TAFs, to ensure safe and legal flights.
- Drone Operations: Best practices for preflight planning, risk management, maintenance, and emergency procedures.
- Aeronautical Knowledge: Principles of flight, aviation terminology, and understanding the effects of weather and performance factors on sUAS operations.
- Safety and Ethics: Guidance on safe operation, privacy considerations, and responsible drone use.

Instructor – Mr. Wayne Bailey is a highly experienced public safety professional with a career spanning nearly five decades. His public safety journey began in 1975, leading him to a pivotal role with the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) in 1995. Following his retirement from OSFM in 2019, Mr. Bailey joined Blue Ridge Mountain Drones as Chief Pilot, specializing in drone instruction. He has since trained over 2,000 students across 200 FAA Part 107 classes, primarily within public safety and educational sectors. Additionally, Mr. Bailey serves as an FAA Safety Team Member and a designated FAA Drone Pro, consulting with North Carolina’s CTE and Law and Public Safety Education (LAPSEN) as their Drone Coordinator.
Date – Thursday, February 6th through Friday, February 7th 8:00-5:00.
